Sailing yacht Sir Winston Churchill, this famous
wooden 3 mast sail boat training vessel has just
emerged from a very extensive refit, as a
charter vessel in the Greek fleet, fully
renovated in 2000. She is designed by Camper &
Nicholson and constructed of Steel, and built in
between 1964-66 by Richard Dunston (Hessle)
Ltd., at the Haven Shipyard, Hessle, Yorks. The
beautiful sailing yacht was built in response to
the idea of a tall ships race, first set forward
by Bernard Morgan in 1954. In 1955, a committee
was formed that initially called itself the Sail
Training Race Committee. At that time no English
vessel existed to enter the race and a number of
overseas ships were chartered and raced under
the English flag. Under the patronage of the
Duke of Edinburgh, public support was rallied
and funds were raised for the commissioning of
the Sir Winston Churchill. Originally used as a
training vessel accommodating up to 46 people.
They yacht is now very comfortable with
beautifully finished, spacious cabins as well as
very attractive lounge and dining areas. The
deck space onboard is huge with sunbathing areas
as well as a very sheltered area for dining on
the foredeck where the intricacies of sailing
this amazing vessel can be watched in comfort
and safety. Beautifully decorated cabins provide
luxury amenities yet will travel you through
time in beauty of her history. A truly unique
piece of history to experience memorable sailing
vacation in Greek isles.
